Vijayawada: YSRCP strongman V. Vijayasai Reddy on Saturday tendered resignation from the membership of Rajya Sabha as per a surprise announcement made by him a day before.

Springing a big surprise, he took to X on Friday to announce his decision to bid adieu to politics while thanking YSRCP president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to give an opportunity to serve people by nominating him to Rajya Sabha twice.

Vijayasai Reddy, who had served as Advisor in Cabinet rank during the YSRCP regime, earlier in the day called on Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar in New Delhi and formally submitted the resignation letter.

He said on X: "Today, I submitted my resignation to the Hon’ble Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji. Hon’ble Chairman of Rajya Sabha is pleased to accept the resignation with immediate effect duly recording the proceedings."

His Friday evening disclosure on resignation took everyone by surprise as his Rajya Sabha tenure is left with another three and half years.

His name figured in the alleged coersion in transferring the shares of a port in Kakinada in firm owned by his family members. He is also A-2 in the alleged quid pro quo corruption case filed against Jagan Mohan Reddy by the CBI.

Sources close to Vijayasai Reddy that his decision to quit politics was on personal grounds. He also clarified that he would not join any political party and he has no personal enmity with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan.
